where do i begin? i’ve been so neglecting my blogging, that i’ve built up quite a list of things i’ve been meaning to blog about. they go way back to two weeks ago when on a rainy saturday (after that glorious brown-harvard football game) i decided to hit trinity brewhouse with the girlfriend.
i’d been hearing about trinity for a while. it’s something of an institution for the local providentials, and often came up in dialog about living in providence. in fact, i seem to recall that a good friend of mine in high school (a teacher who will remain nameless) once blessed the beer of trinity extensively. “when you get old enough,” he told me.
i am old enough now. i marched into the brewhouse, shook of the rain, and immediately ordered a “taster tray” which included a sampling of six inhouse brews, pictured (with pubby mood lighting below:
- Lager
- Tommy’s Red
- Trinity IPA
- Octoberfest
- Narragansett Porter
- Russian Imperial Stout
the beer was fantastic. especially good was the ‘gansett porter (apparently once a rhode island staple) and the tommy’s red. the food was also fair (at least at the Bacon Cheeseburger was good), as was the caesar salad.
Because of some technicalities in RI law, Trinity cannot sell bottles of their inhouse beer, but they can sell you a half gallon jug (???). As a result I found myself taking home a “growler” (64 fl oz.) of tommy’s red for whenever the occasion strikes.
